Imagine standing among the crowds in first-century Judea, listening intently as a man from Nazareth begins to teach. He speaks with an authority unlike any other, not quoting rabbis or traditions, but speaking of Himself—boldly, clearly, and unapologetically. Then He utters words that cause hearts to stir and religious leaders to tremble: “I am…”

To the Jewish mind, these two words echoed with divine resonance. They reached back to Exodus 3:14, when God revealed His name to Moses: “I AM WHO I AM.” It was a name sacred and powerful—Yahweh, the self-existent, eternal God. So when Jesus used these words to describe Himself, He wasn’t simply using metaphor. He was making a claim to divinity. He was telling the world not only who He was, but who God is.

Each of Jesus’ “I Am” statements—The Bread of Life, The Light of the World, The Door, The Good Shepherd, The Resurrection and the Life, The Way, the Truth, and the Life, and The True Vine—offers a glimpse into the heart and mission of Christ. These are more than theological claims; they are deeply personal invitations. Each one calls us to know Him more fully, follow Him more closely, and trust Him more deeply.

This study series is designed to walk you through each of these seven declarations, exploring their Old Testament roots, their historical and cultural context, and their rich theological meaning. But more than anything, this study is about relationship—about hearing the voice of Jesus as He tells you, “This is who I am.”

As you journey through each lesson, may your heart be awakened to the greatness of Christ. May you not only understand His words but encounter the One who spoke them.
